Coonoor Chronicles
It had been quite some time since my last break and work was getting onto my nerves.
And while still at it, admist all the mounting pressures in office and pending work at home, it was decided that a weekend holiday was the ideal cure.
Back to reality, it was the usual stuff. Starting with scouting for places to see around Bangalore, not wanting to be repititive and possibly be a little away from the generaj junta. Sound easy as it may, there were very few options to choose from.
The wife and me finally shortlisted Gokarna & Coonoor. As luck would favour us, Gokarna was booked and full, leaving us with Coonoor. A place which we had bye-passed in the past. But now, beckoned onto us to come and pay a visit.
Quick enquiries done and the booking was confirmed in about 3 hours.
It was set. We were going to Coonoor. Finally.
Set to leave on Saturday morning at 0500, we left with a highly acceptable delay of 15 minutes.
We decided to take the well travelled route via Mysore.
With a halt at Kamath Upachar for breakfast (and a flaming Scorpio engine bay for entertainment) we proceeded straight to Coonoor, via Mysore-Gundlupet-Bandipur-Mudumalai-Ooty. Ooty is something we had seen in the past (rather combed) and held no attraction whatsoever.
We arrived at Coonoor in just 6 hours covering a distance of 312 km.
A quick lunch and after taking some much needed rest, we decided to stay indoor for the day.
Early next morning the air was misty & cloudy. Perfect time for some photography.
We decided to visit just 3 places : Dolphin's Nose, Lamb's Rock and Sim's Park.
The entire Coonoor was filled with clouds and all we managed to see was white skies everywhere. But still the fun of traveling along these roads to small places was too exciting.
Having covered all 3 places, the remaining of the day was again dedicated to just sit back relax and enjoy the weather.
Finally Monday and it was time to leave. But the experience of Coonoor was something not forgettable quite fast.
